Equations of Motion: General Plane Motion
Learning Goal:
To use the equations of motion and apply them to a system of particles experiencing general plane motion and to use this information to determine characteristics such as accelerations and acting forces.
The blocks A and B shown are initially at rest and have masses of mA=225 kg and mB=109 kg. Neglect the mass of the rope and pulley system and assume block B moves only in the vertical direction, parallel to the y-axis. Neglect the effects of friction.

Part A - Acceleration of Block B
If the blocks are released from rest, determine the magnitude of the acceleration of block B.

Part B - Acceleration of Block A
If the blocks are released from rest, determine the magnitude of the acceleration of block A.

Part C - Tension in the Rope
If the blocks are released from rest, determine the tension in the rope.
